Create Your USP First

The first step to selling a product or service is determining its USP, or unique selling proposition. Get the product  done — a sample, a mock-up, an offering, whatever it is you plan to market.

Once you have a product that satisfies a market, then you can make plans to sell it everywhere. The first step is to get the product off the ground, using the idea of a unique benefit in its design, so that you have something.

Next, try to sell it. Yes, try to find a customer or customers. Don’t spend time and money on stationary, logos, websites, anything like that. Don’t fret all sorts of legals, corporate structures or whatever, just try to sell it. All those things are secondary. If you can sell it, then you can proceed onto all those other things but if not, don’t waste your money on it.
